Welcome to Grace Cottage, which is situated up on the hill behind Bruichladdich. The house is self-catering and sleeps up to 5 people, in the 3 bedrooms.
As you come along the coast road, you will see the sign for Conisby, right beside Bruichladdich Distillery. Follow the road up past the distillery sheds and you will come to a little cluster of houses – Grace Cottage is accessed by the second driveway on your left – there is a big rock and signpost to guide you!
In Bruichladdich itself, you can enjoy whisky tours and shopping at the distillery, as well as a well-stocked village shop and Post Office, which serves very good coffee.
There is a bus service through Bruichladdich very day except Sundays, connecting with rest of the island.
It is only a 5 minute drive to Port Charlotte, which has 2 Hotels, with Bars and Meals, as well as the village Shop/Post Office, which also has a petrol station. The Museum of Islay Life is also here and many wonderful walks and other activities.

You enter the Cottage from the porch at the rear of the property, where the washer and dryer are located. The house provides very comfortable accomodation – the Lounge/Dining and Kitchen are open plan, which makes for relaxed living. The large patio doors in the Lounge give wonderful views south across Loch Indaal to the other side of Islay, and south-west towards Ireland, as well as access to the patio and picnic table.
There is Internet TV as well as DVD’s and books for rainy days. There is a solid fuel stove between the living and dining areas. We can order coal ahead of your visit, if you like. (£15/bag).
The dining area seats 6 people and connects to the kitchen with an island and 2 bar stools. The kitchen is well-equipped and has a dishwasher, coffee maker and microwave.
The main bedroom is at the back of the cottage and has a king-sized bed and ensuite shower room. It has plenty of storage for suitcases and clothes. There is a double bedroom, with twin beds and a room with one single bed at the front of the house. These rooms would share the main bathroom.
Outside, there is a spacious garden, mostly grassed, with areas to sit and enjoy the views or for children to run around. It is completely fenced, except for the open driveway. It is a great place to watch birds come and go in the different seasons. There is also a little shed stocked with firewood, which can be padlocked if you wish to store bikes, etc. (The adjoining garage and allotment are not available with the Cottage, but you may be lucky enough to get a lettuce from the gardener, if the rabbits don’t get them first!) There’s a small clothesline at the front and a “whirly” dryer to the side of the garden.
The Cottage is very much a non-smoking and pet-free home, due to allergies.
